Contents:
Central bifolium (Fols. A - B). On fol. Ar one can read the Responsory 'Descendit de caelis' (Cantus ID number 006410) followed by its verse. On fol. Av there is a melisma on 'Descendit' which has been compared against the five melismas (A, B, C1, C2, and D) published in KELLY, THOMAS F., 'Neuma Triplex', Acta Musicologica (1988), pp. 1-30, p. 3 (see also pp. 9, 11 et seq.). The comparison shows that the melisma in fragment P-G N 043 is similar to melismas C1 and - its longer version - C2 but it does not exactly match any of them. The melisma is followed by the prosula 'Facture tue rex' (Cantus ID a01658).
Material:
parchment
Page layout:
Two columns.
Type of notation:
Aquitanian (Portuguese variety)
Description of the notation:

Small size neumes. The difference between a lozenge and a more or less square punctum is usually clearly defined. The 'square' puncta have the lateral borders slanted to the right and look more like parallelograms. The lozenge is not used consistently, occasionally it is possible to identify the mode of the chants (see the Cantus Index of the fragment on the right) but in many occasions the mode cannot be done either for the poor conditions of the fragment or for the lack of lozenges. When present, the lozenge is written as part of compound neumes (usually descending) and only rarely found in isolation on a single syllable. Custodes written wherever needed.
