P-G (Guimarães) Arquivo Municipal Alfredo Pimenta C 1426

Archive:
P-G (Guimarães) Arquivo Municipal Alfredo Pimenta
Shelf-mark:
C 1426
Siglum:
P-G C 1426
Subcategory of book:
Noted breviary
Category:
monophony
Completeness:
fragment
Document type:
manuscript
Date:
mid- to late 12th century
Tradition:
Aquitanian
Contents (feasts):
De Prophetis
Material:
parchment
Condition of document:
This bifolium is currently used as book cover. Fol. Ar: the top-right and bottom corners are torn, causing loss of content (text only), the right side is fragile because of multiple creases. Library sticker and water stains affect the legibility of the fragment. Fol. Av: the bottom is damaged with loss of content. Fol. Br: the right edge is slightly damaged; the bottom left corner is slightly damaged with loss of content (notation). Fol. Bv: is in discrete condition, despite a deep crease, the presence of some brown leather and stitches (along the book spine) which cause loss of content (text and notation). Reinforcing brown leather along the book spine.
Foliation/Pagination:
Absent.
Page layout:
Fol. Arv: 2 columns per page; 29 text lines without notation. Fol. Br: 2 columns per page; left column: 25 text lines without notation, 2 with notation; right column: 18 text lines with no notation, 5 with notation. Fol. Bv: 2 columns per page; left column: 18 text lines without notation, 5 with notation; right column: 20 text lines without notation, 4 with notation.
Type of notation:
Aquitanian (Portuguese variety)
Description of the notation:

Small-sized neumes placed on a red line. Custos. The lozenge is used consistently but only in descending patterns and never in isolation. The difference between a lozenge and a more or less square punctum is usually clearly defined.

Decoration:
Text and notation in black. Initials and rubrics in red.
Inscriptions and marks:
Fol. Ar: library sticker at the top left, it likely provides info on the former shelf-mark. A second library sticker is placed at the middle of the page, on the left; it reads 'Bc 29 [...] 1583 [...]'. Fol. Br: some text in very small font was written along the top right edge in black ink. Fol. Bv: 'Iivro de vedorias de Tolões des o ano de 1583 / ate 89' was written in black at the top of the page (this is possibly a reference to Telões, concelho de Aguiar). At the top right corner there is a library sticker with '280 [...]' written in black. On the left margin there is a signature and 'quã' written in pale ink.
