P-BRad (Braga) Arquivo Distrital
Shelf-mark:
Pastas de fragmentos, 052 (olim Caixa 249, nº 14)
Siglum:
P-BRad Pastas 052
Subcategory of book:
Missal
Category:
monophony
Completeness:
fragment
Document type:
manuscript
Date:
12th century
Material:
parchment
Condition of document:
Central bifolium slightly damaged. The fragment was used as book cover. Fols. 131r and 132v are in poorer condition (external cover). There are many irregular cuts and tears along the borders. Loss of contents along the lower margin. Damp patches and creases challenge the reading of the fragment. A shred of parchment was used to patch a tear on fol. 132r. Some square Aquitanian neumes around a red line are visible on the shred.
Foliation/Pagination:
Original foliation in Roman numerals on fol. 132 ("cxxxii"). The analysis of the contents of the other folio allows us to demonstrate that the two folios are consecutive - the other being "131" - and that the fragment was originally a central bifolio.
Page layout:
Size of the bifolium: 310 x 225 mm. Text area: one column of 295 x 155 mm. 30 – 31 text lines, many with music.
Type of notation:
Aquitanian
Decoration:
Very simple decoration: only plain initials in red or black. Display script in red. Text and Aquitanian notation in black.
Inscriptions and marks:
Three inscriptions on fol. 131r: "Caixa 249 n° 14" written in blue ink by a modern hand at the top left corner; "Santiago de ..." written at the top of the page; "Tombo de Igreia de São Tiago de..." written in the middle of the page. A modern hand wrote "52" in red ink at the top right corner of fol. 132v.
Remarks:
P. Avelino de Jesus da Costa referred to this fragment as: "Caixa 249, 77 – Número 14 – Tombo de São Tiago de Cerdedo, 1549" (Cerdedo is located ca 60 km north-east of Braga).
