Condition of document:
"Pastas de fragmentos, 85 (olim Caixa 250, nº 23)" is made up of two pieces: a bifolium ("fols. A - B") and a shred of parchment in poorer condition ("fol. C"). The two pieces have been used as book cover. Looking at the notation, it is possible to argue that fols. A - B and fol. C did not originally belong to the same codex with fragment C being probably older. The size of the neumes is larger on fols. A - B; here, the neumes are placed around a dry-point line. On the contrary, the neumes on fol. C are much smaller and placed around a red line.
The axis of the notation on fols. A - B is vertical while it is more slanted on fol. C. Fol. C was severely trimmed, with great loss of contents. The two pages of the bifolium A-B are not consecutive and they have several wrinkles and creases all over the surface. The borders of the bifolium were trimmed with loss of contents: the top of each folio and approx. half of each external column is now lost. The parchment on fols. Bv - Ar (external cover) is in poorer condition than Av - Br, and the ink vanished in many points.

Size of the bifolium (fols. A - B): 431-441 x 308-326 mm; fol. A 215-220 x 308-326 mm; fol. B 218-223 x 308-326 mm. Text area: two columns of 100-105 x 245-260 mm. Text lines 23, some with notation. Fragment C: ca 310 x 95 mm, text area 240 x 65 mm (one column).

Plain initials in red and black; pen-flourished initials in red and blue. Display script in red. Text and notation in black.
Inscriptions and marks:
Fol. Ar: "85" in red ink, modern hand. Fol. Bv: at the bottom of the page there are four inscriptions, all reversed with respect to the text: "Caixa 250, n° 23" written by pen in blue ink; "Salvador de Vilarinho das Cambas" in brown ink; beneath this inscription there is another one with the same text ("Salvador de Vilarinho das Cambas") but bigger font and black ink. The fourth inscription is more ancient and almost unreadable.
Remarks:
P. Avelino de Jesus da Costa referes to this fragment as: "Caixa 250 - 81 – Número 23 – Tombo do Salvador de Vilarinho das Cambas, 1547" (Vilarinho das Cambas is located ca 25 km south of Braga).
